Nestled in the heart of New York’s Upper East Side, Persepolis has been a cherished culinary landmark since 1991, offering an authentic taste of Persian and Mediterranean cuisine that warmly invites diners to embark on a flavorful journey. At this elegant yet inviting restaurant, every dish is a carefully crafted homage to traditional Persian flavors, presented with a contemporary touch that appeals to both longtime lovers of the cuisine and newcomers alike.
Stepping into Persepolis feels like entering a warmly lit haven where the aromas of fragrant saffron, grilled spices, and fresh herbs instantly captivate your senses. The menu offers an irresistible array of dishes, from the exquisitely tender Duo Kubideh—a succulent pairing of spiced grilled ground meats resembling the very recipes cherished by Persian grandmothers—to the comforting, hearty Barley Soup, brimming with chickpeas, red kidney beans, and herbs, perfect to soothe and invigorate on cooler evenings.
The vibrant Shirazi Salad and Cucumber Salad provide refreshing, citrus-kissed contrasts that awaken taste buds, while the Appetizer Platter showcases the diverse flavors of the region with delights like creamy Hummus, crispy Sambusa, and more. For those seeking a sweet finale, the luscious Roasted Pineapple with Rose Ice Cream and Chocolate Syrup offers a memorable fusion of floral and decadent notes, complemented beautifully by the traditional Saffron Rice Pudding.
Persepolis doesn’t just delight the palate but also embraces guests with its attentive service and genuine hospitality. As shared by patrons like Steve Blair, who fondly recalls how the Duo Kubideh reminded his Persian wife of her grandmother’s cooking, the staff’s kindness extends beyond the plate—generously surprising guests with complimentary treats such as their famed rice pudding and whimsical cotton candy. Such thoughtful gestures elevate the dining experience into something truly special.
Signature cocktails deserve a mention here—imagine savoring a perfectly balanced Red Sea Martini or indulging in a refreshing Pomegranate Mojito that bursts with tart sweetness and invigorating mint. Persepolis’ thoughtfully curated drinks menu also features a fine selection of Cognacs, Port wines, and unique infused vodkas that perfectly complement the robust flavors of the cuisine.
Whether you are craving succulent kebabs, aromatic stews like the famed Khoresht Fesenjan steeped in rich pomegranate and walnut sauce, or vegetarian-friendly options highlighted by fresh herbs and grains, Persepolis delivers every time with consistency and care. As one regular guest, Anuragini M, passionately describes, the restaurant is "hands down my favorite Persian restaurant in the city," offering a comforting and authentic dining experience that never disappoints.
In sum, dining at Persepolis is more than just a meal; it is an immersive cultural encounter where every bite tells a story and every visit feels like coming home. For those seeking a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere paired with genuine Persian hospitality and irresistible cuisine, Persepolis remains an unrivaled destination in New York City.

This was our first time to this place as we are in New York for the holidays. It was an absolute delight to be there. Everything was so delicious and we got the Gaime and Kubideh which according to my Persian wife tasted like her Grandma’s. We would absolutely love to visit Persepolis again. They were kind enough to give us their rice pudding and Cotton candy on the house and it was mind blowing.
Persopolis is hands down my favorite Persian restaurant in the city, and also the oldest. Every visit feels like a warm, comforting experience with food that is consistently delicious. My all-time favorite is their dill rice with lemon chicken, it’s just PERFECT! I also love their fish dishes and kebabs, always cooked to perfection. Don’t miss their appetizer, fresh bread with Kashk Bademjoon. It is SO good! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect spot whether you’re out with friends or simply craving something hearty and satisfying. What makes the experience even better is the staff. They are incredibly friendly, attentive, and always make you feel right at home. Persopolis is one of those rare restaurants you can return to again and again, and still discover something new to enjoy. It’s authentic, consistent, and has truly become my comfort spot for Persian food in the city.
I had an outstanding experience at this Persian restaurant. The food was absolutely excellent—rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and true to authentic Persian taste. Every dish was cooked to perfection, from the appetizers to the main courses. The service was equally impressive. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful dining experience. And don’t forget the tea I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for top-quality Persian cuisine paired with exceptional service. I will definitely be coming back!
I had a great dining experience at Persepolis, a well-established Persian restaurant that has been serving New York City since 1991. I started with the barley soup appetizer (barley, chickpeas, red kidney beans, and herbs), served with Persian bread. It was warm, comforting, and flavorful. For the main course, I ordered Gaimeh – vegan option, made with tomatoes, split peas, cinnamon, eggplant, and dried lime, along with steamed white basmati rice. The dish was rich, balanced, and very satisfying. Gaimeh is usually offered with beef or as a vegetarian dish, so I asked the server for clarification and was pleased to learn that the vegetarian version is actually fully vegan. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. While dessert options were not vegan, I was happy with the overall meal. Persepolis offers solid choices for both vegans and meat eaters, making it a great place to dine with friends who have different dietary preferences. I highly recommend it for authentic Persian food and friendly service.
Impeccable service! The staff truly go above and beyond. Also, they have vegeterian options for all the stews, which is a brilliant idea! Very reasonably priced for the quality of food. The two of us had a lot to eat, three generous appetizers with lots of freshly baked bread, and 2 huge main courses in addition to soft drinks, and it all came out to $117 tax included. The restaurant was packed for dinner on a Wednesday evening, and consisted of a very diverse crowd. Even though it was busy, they did not rush us, and brought the check only when we asked for it. They also welcomed my registered service dog who performs a medical task, so I felt at ease during dinner. My dog rested comfortably underneath the table while keeping an eye on me. Make sure to check out all the art on the walls!
Tasty food Very good services Friendly staff The price is deserved for food taste and portion size Both chicken and meet they are delicious And not Heavy on stomach.
Flavorful Persian food with a large focus on kebabs and dips. Meats were well seasoned and grilled but unfortunately came in small portions relative to the rice and sides. Tachin was impressive to have on the menu but wasn’t as crispy as I’d have liked it. Service was friendly and helpful, and the vibe was busy at dinner time!
